Cut the cake in half horizontally and
sandwich together with one-third of the butter icing. Place on the cake
board. Use the remaining icing to cover the cake. Smooth the top and
swirl the side with a palette knife.
For the marzipan plaits, divide the
marzipan into three and tint pink, green and purple. Cut each portion in
half. Using one-half of each color, roll thin sausages long enough to go
around the base. Pinch the ends together, then twist the strands into a
rope. Pinch the other ends to seal.
Place the colored marzipan rope on the
cake board around the cake.
For the nests, take the remaining
portions of colored marzipan and divide each into five. Roll each piece
into a 16cm rope. Take a rope of each color, pinch the ends together,
twist to form a multi-colored rope and pinch the other ends. Form into a
circle. Repeat to make five nests.
Space the nests evenly on the cake.
Place small chocolate eggs in the nests.
