Scones Recipe

Baking powder
Butter, diced
Egg, beaten
Milk
Beaten egg, to glaze |
Method :
- Preheat the oven to 220oC/425oF/Gas
7. Lightly butter a baking sheet.
- Sift the flour and baking powder
together, then rub in the butter.
- Make a well in the centre of the flour
mixture, add the egg and milk.
- Mix to a soft dough using a round
bladed knife.
- Turn out the scone dough on to a
floured surface, and knead very lightly until smooth.
- Roll out the dough to about a 2 cm
thickness and cut into 10 or 12 circles using a 5 cm plain or fluted
cutter dipped in flour.
- Transfer to the baking sheet, brush
with egg, then bake for about 8 minutes, until risen and golden.
- Cool slightly on a wire rack before
serving.
