Buttermilk Scones Recipe

Bicarbonate of soda

Salt

Butter or margarine, chilled

Buttermilk

Method :
  • Preheat the oven to 220oC/425oF/Gas 7.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a mixing bowl.
  • Cut in the butter or margarine with a fork until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  • Add the buttermilk and mix until well combined to form a soft dough.
  • Turn the dough on to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 30 seconds.
  • Roll out the dough to a 1 cm thickness. Used a floured 6 cm pastry cutter to cut out rounds.
  • Transfer the rounds to a baking sheet and bake until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Serve hot with butter and honey.
