Traditional Sugar Biscuits Recipe

Plain flour
Bicarbonate of soda
Baking powder
Grated nutmeg
Butter or margarine, at room temperature
Caster sugar
Vanilla essence
Egg
Milk
Colored or demerara sugar, for sprinkling |
Method :
- Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda,
baking powder and nutmeg into a small bowl. Set aside.
- Cream the butter or margarine, caster sugar and
vanilla essence
together until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat to
mix well.
- Add the flour mixture alternately with
the milk, stirring with a wooden spoon to make a soft dough.
- Wrap the dough in clear film and chill
for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180oC/350oF/Gas
4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 3mm thickness. Cut
into circles with a biscuit cutter.
- Transfer the biscuits on to ungreased
baking sheets. Sprinkle each one with sugar.
- Bake until golden, for 10-12 minutes.
- With a palette knife, transfer the
biscuits to a wire rack to cool.
